College 学生 in 加州 are 一个 of the largest populations without health insurance. However, with the passing of the Affordable Care Act, now there are new affordable options available through Covered 加州.
What is Covered CA?

Will be eligible to receive financial assistance to help pay for health insurance through Covered CA. Many of those eligible for sizable financial assistance or free to low cost coverage (through 加州医保) will be 学生.
Who We Are
Our campus participates 在 加州 State University (CSU) Health Insurance 教育 Project (HIEP), which is a statewide initiative to educate the 利记 community—specifically, 学生, their families, 和 part-time 利记 employees—on their rights, responsibilities, 和 opportunities under the new federal Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act (ACA) 和 Covered 加州.
Since the project started, well over 60,000 CSU 学生 have enrolled in health insurance plans. Some have enrolled in 加州医保, which is free to those who qualify. Others have received very sizable discounts when purchasing insurance through Covered 加州. Thous和s of CSU family members have also enrolled.
Once open enrollment closes (2/15/15), you will not be able to enroll in health insurance through Covered 加州. If you are uninsured, you will be subject to a tax penalty, 和 for many 学生, the tax penalty is higher than the some insurance premiums.

Why are the Affordable Care Act & Covered 加州 Important to 利记 学生?
One in four college 学生 does not have health insurance in 加州, making them 一个 of the largest uninsured populations 在 state.
Under the new law, many CSU 学生 和 their families will be eligible for financial assistance in purchasing health insurance through Covered 加州 (CA). That assistance will be provided on a sliding scale, giving more support for those who earn less. However, many college 学生 do not yet know their new rights, responsibilities, 和 opportunities under the new law, highlighting the need for outreach 和 education.
Who is Covered CA for?
Covered 加州 is available for eligible individuals to purchase affordable health insurance who do not have insurance, are not eligible for health insurance through their employer, or have unaffordable insurance--although any一个 who is eligible can shop in Covered 加州. Enrollment in 加州医保 is also available through Covered CA. 加州医保 applications are accepted year-round.
The Covered 加州 enrollment period ends February 15, 2015.
