Competition/Project Based
Project/Activity/Competition-based groups generally focus on a physical task or project, often involving competition with other schools. They provide additional opportunities for hands-on project experience.

Concrete Canoe TeamClub Room: Tent in ENGR Quad The concrete canoe team designs and constructs a full size canoe made entirely out of concrete. Students split up into different groups and work on a specific aspect of the project. There is a mix design team that compiles research about concrete, creates samples of concrete and then tests the samples. There is a construction team where they design a process to construct the canoe out of concrete by creating molds and using tools to achieve the finished product. There is also a paddling team which practices every weekend to prepare for the concrete canoe competition in the Spring (hosted by UC Davis in 2015). The concrete canoe team is composed of mostly civil engineering students but also welcomes other engineering students. |
Cube³Cube³ is a small satellite development club, and offers a great way for people of all experience levels and majors to develop and apply their talents. We’ve worked on cubesats and cansats, collaborating with different student organizations to launch fully functional projects. |

Precision Flight Team (利记PFT)Club Room: IS 216B The 利记 Precision Flight Team competes in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association at the Safety And Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON). SAFECON promotes aviation safety as well as advanced airmanship skills. The team is comprised of all majors and skill levels. |
Robotics ClubClub Room: ENGR 141 利记 Robotics is dedicated mechatronics disciplines of computer, electrical, mechanical and control system engineering. 利记 Robotics is a place where students in those fields can use the skills they have learned in class in creating robots and actualizing products. This is also a place for students with no knowledge in those fields can be put into a situation where they can self-learn and learn from other members in the areas of mechatronics. |

Spartan RacingClub Room: ENGR 344 SAE International is a student run organization that allows students to apply their knowledge from the classroom to real projects and expand their network. Each year our teams design and manufacture a new vehicle for competition. |
Mini BajaClub Room: ENGR 344 SAE Mini-Baja is an engineering club that designs and builds an off-road mini baja vehicle. The vehicle, that is built throughout the year, is used to compete against other colleges at an end of the year competition. |

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)Club Room: ENGR 240 With more than 35,000 members, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is the world's largest professional society, principal voice, and information resource devoted to the progress of engineering and science in aviation, space, and defense. The purpose of our student branch is to support the success of San Jose State University's aerospace engineering students. AIAA will provide its members with access to events, workshops, club room resources, research projects, socials, and other related activities that will connect students with professionals and help prepare them for a career in the aerospace industry. |

Material Advantage (MA)Club Room: ENG 233 Material Advantage is a national organization that acts as the student chapter for 4 different materials related professional societies: ACerS - The American Ceramic Society, AIST - Association for Iron & Steel Technology, ASM International - The Materials Information Society, TMS - The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society. By joining Material Advantage, the student has access to the networking, professional resources, and scholarships of all 4 national organizations. On campus, the Material Advantage club hosts social events and professional development activities. The students are active in the local ASM professional section which hosts monthly dinner meetings, which provide great opportunities to learn more about materials engineering in local industry and network with working engineers. |
